Funky Feminine
Savannah Townhouse

Welcome to the Funky Feminine, a townhouse in Savannah with oodles of potential. The goal here was to create a unique space that feels modern without being stuck to anything too trendy that we'd hate in six months. We wanted a strong mid-century foundation, with plenty of feminine colors and shapes. The result is a great mix of modern and classic silhouettes, a warm color palette, and touches incredibly unique to the gal who lives here.

With this being the client's new home in a new city, she moved with almost no furniture and a strong idea of what the space should feel like, but an overwhelming sense of 'where do we start?' I helped define her design style, create a vision for the home, and make a shopping list to put her off on the right start.

This apartment is one quarter of a recently renovated Italianate townhouse. It was the client's total dream apartment (I think it's now my dream apartment, too). Original oak floors, huge windows, and freshly redone fixtures offered a great blank slate to add in more character and texture.

The more structured shape of the wall unit and patterned green rug created a perfect opportunity for a flirty couch shape. We settled on this gorgeous smoky teal, knowing it was a color that we wanted to have feel very prominent.

With a view of the gorgeous Savannah streets, these huge windows were begging for some attention. We went for swivel chairs, oversized enough to curl up in, but not so large to overshadow the couch. Bonus points for the contrast piping!

The entryway offers another opportunity for a showstopper piece of furniture. We agreed  that this should be something vintage, so I gave the client plenty of search terms and guidance to find her perfect vintage mid-century credenza.

The living room bay window overlooks a park, which was the perfect spot for a dining nook. We went for an upholstered bench and armchairs for ultimate comfort, as the client shared she'd likely make this her work from home spot.

In the bedroom, the tall ceilings beg for a dramatic bed. A perfectly timed Marketplace find of a barely used Crate & Barrel four-poster bed helped establish the design for this space. We went for more feminine shapes in the rug and a blended palette of bedding.

The vanity between the two windows was one of the only pieces the client brought to Savannah with her - vintage, solid mahogany dressing table from her grandmother.  We added a fun new vanity chair, some artwork, and light blue curtains to keep the room  airy.
