Eclectic Escape
Atlanta Apartment

After living in their apartment for a little over a year, this client came to me ready to make their bedroom feel like a relaxed yet fun escape. They wanted the design throughout the rest of the apartment to expand into the bedroom, which up until now had been a sort of afterthought.

With a tighter budget, I helped map out changes to implement over several months, starting with big impact color items like a rug and curtains, advice for when to shop the sales, and a thrift hit list to find cool pieces at a fraction of the price. We added soft touches of color here and there and some funky patterns for personality, while keeping the overall foundation simple. The client came to me with some art pieces from family that we wanted to highlight in a meaningful way.

We found a great mid-century styled bed frame with storage and decided to pair the teak wood with simple black curved nightstands. The trio of artwork above the bed are sketches from the client's grandmother. We chose an olive green rug to ground the space.

They currently have a black dresser with rattan drawers, but are on the hunt for a dream mid-century dresser on Marketplace. I styled the dresser with their existing mirror, a new piece of artwork, and a funky lamp. I added a chair by the windows with a rice lamp for reading.

By adding a frame to the  canvas and putting a light above it, the art, created by a passed uncle, now reads more dignified. The reading chair gets a side table for drinks or a book, and the plants get clustered together for a more intentional styled look.

With the existing bookcase, I pulled a plant over to add some life, re-used the previous nightstand lamp (the orb light) as an accent, and suggested some fun colored matboards for personal photos.
